Licensing Requirements
Real estate licenses (sales agent or broker) must be renewed every two years and require continuing education (CE).
Your real estate license must be renewed every two years if you are a real estate sales agent or broker. Certain continuing education courses are required as part of the renewal process and others are electives at the agent’s discretion.
First-Time Renewal (Active or Inactive):
98 hours total
- 90 hours of Sales Apprentice Education (SAE)
- 8 hours of Legal Update I & II

By adhering to the Code, you demonstrate a commitment to high standards of business conduct, reassuring both fellow practitioners and the public. It is important you remain familiar with the Code which outlines your obligations to clients, colleagues and the general public.
Training Requirements:
- New SABOR members: Complete Code of Ethics training within 90 days of joining.
- All REALTORS®: Must complete the course every 3 years (current cycle: Jan 1, 2025 - Dec 31, 2027).
- Training is available for free through REALTOR® Academy, with optional CE credit for a fee.
Note: The Texas Legal II course no longer satisfies this NAR requirement as of 2019.
